LIVE FROM AICC | Launch of ECOWAS Golden Jubilee Celebration

Accra, Ghana - 22 April, 2025 - The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is marking a major milestone today, April 22, 2025, as Ghana hosts the launch of its 50th anniversary celebrations.

President John Dramani Mahama will lead the formal commencement of activities marking the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee in Accra.

The ceremony will feature colorful performances, including the presentation of the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee logo and theme, as well as artistic and cultural performances recounting the history of ECOWAS. Ministers and dignitaries from all 15 ECOWAS Member States are expected to attend, making it a significant diplomatic and cultural gathering in the region.

The launch event will set the tone for similar events to be held in each Member State throughout the year. ECOWAS has evolved into what is widely regarded as the best-organized Regional Economic Community in Africa, boasting key achievements and ongoing programs aimed at deepening regional integration and improving socio-economic development.

The ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government has strongly recommended that the institution's 50th anniversary be celebrated with great visibility in each Member State.

The celebrations will showcase the progress made by ECOWAS since its establishment on May 28, 1975, in Lagos, Nigeria.
