Kumasi, Ghana -02 April, 2025 - Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, the Interior Minister, has instructed the Inspector General of Police to transfer police commanders from mining regions.

The move, according to him, targets officers who have failed to curb illegal mining despite prolonged postings.

As part of a broader crackdown, transferred commanders will be redeployed, and new appointees will undergo a three-month assessment to demonstrate their effectiveness in combating illegal mining.

Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak reiterated his dedication to implementing the directive while meeting with Imams and Zongo Chiefs in Kumasi, despite facing pressure to reverse the decision.

“I have ordered the IGP to transfer all police commanders in all mining areas and send in new ones. So if you are a regional, divisional, and district police commander serving in mining areas, you will be changed with immediate effect.

“The new ones we are taking there will be transferred after three months if they don’t perform. We will keep making changes till we see results,” he stated.
