{In-Pictures}: Raging Inferno Destroys Shops at Adum in Kumasi

Adum, Ashanti Region, Ghana - 21 March, 2025 - A devastating fire swept through the Adum Market in Kumasi, Ghana, on Friday, March 21, destroying dozens of shops and leaving business owners counting their losses.

The blaze, which erupted in the early hours of Friday morning, ravaged a significant portion of the market, which is a major hub for second-hand clothing, seamstresses, and watch repairers.

Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene as flames engulfed the market stalls, fueled by highly combustible materials. "The fire spread so quickly, and people were running everywhere, trying to save their belongings," said one witness.

Despite the swift response of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), which dispatched six fire tenders to the scene, firefighters struggled to contain the blaze due to the market's narrow alleyways and limited access routes.
