I Called Kissi Agyebeng to Caution Him, Not Interfere: I will circulate our WhatsApp Texts to Prove it - Gyampo

Accra, Ghana - 22 June, 2025 - Professor Ransford Gyampo, Acting CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, has responded to a public statement issued by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), led by Kissi Agyebeng.

In his reaction, Professor Gyampo denies allegations that he called the OSP's office to interfere with an ongoing investigation into former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta.

According to Professor Gyampo, he had a direct conversation with Kissi Agyebeng, during which the Special Prosecutor indicated that he was unavailable to speak and promised to call back. Professor Gyampo claims that he sent a text message to the OSP, cautioning him against causing financial loss to the state during the investigation, which he fully supports.

Professor Gyampo's comments on TV3's Key Points programme, where he expressed concerns about the OSP's possible intentions behind the investigation, sparked the OSP's response. The OSP had suggested that Professor Gyampo's comments were unfounded and potentially damaging to the country's anti-corruption efforts.

In his response, Professor Gyampo maintains that his intention was to express hope that the OSP's actions were driven by patriotism rather than personal motives. He has announced plans to circulate their WhatsApp texts to clarify the nature of his communication with the OSP.

Folks,
Kissi Agyabeng issued the public statement below, following my discussion on TV3 Key Points yesterday. I have also responded to him as follows:

Kissi,
I didn’t call your office, I called YOU and we never spoke on phone because you said you couldn’t speak and that you were going to call back.

I texted you just to caution you not to cause financial loss to the state even as you go about your investigations,  which I fully favor.

Given what I have heard from across the political divide about your possible intentions, I only expressed the hope that your intentions are patriotic and not personal. That’s all.

It is fine to assure Ghanaians about your intentions but the bit that talks about me calling your office and insinuating that perhaps I called to ask you to do something untoward is unfair and makes me then doubt your intentions the more. I will circulate our whatsup texts also to make the point that I only expressed concern about potential financial loss to Ghana.

Thank you
