"If I were you I would shut up, most Ghanaians knew this was a witch hunt" - Suhuyini blasts Godfred Dame
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini has lambasted the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, for his handling of the ambulance procurement trial and the case's outcome.
His utterances were in reaction to the Court of Appeal's decision on Tuesday, July 30, to acquit and discharge the accused in the case.
The verdict overturned an earlier trial court order requiring Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and Richard Jakpa to present their defense.
The two were accused of inflicting the state a financial loss of €2.37 million in an ambulance procurement agreement for the Ghanaian government.
Following the ruling, Attorney-General Godfred Dame made a statement criticizing the decision. He branded it as absurd and inconsistent with the overwhelming evidence offered by the prosecution, claiming that it undermines public accountability and the rule of law.
Speaking in an interview with TV3 on Wednesday, July 31, Alhassan Suhuyini advised the Attorney General to refrain from embarrassing himself by remianing silent on the issue.
According to him, Dame's response to the court's judgment jeopardized both himself and the post he holds.
"This case has not just been lost but his integrity has also been lost and if I were in his shoes, I would be speaking very little at this moment because he has not only disgraced himself but he has disgraced the office of the Attorney General."
"It was a case that shouldn’t have happened. It is a classic example of political persecution. Even before we heard what was contained in the leaked tape, most Ghanaians knew this was a witch hunt and a classic case of political persecution," he said.
