GUTA Calls on Traders to Adjust Prices Amid Cedi Appreciation

Accra, Ghana - 12 May, 2025 - The Ghana Union of Traders' Associations (GUTA) has urged traders to review and adjust prices of goods and services following the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi.

GUTA President, Dr. Joseph Obeng, in a statement, emphasized that traders should share the benefits of the cedi's strengthening with consumers, many of whom are struggling with high living costs.

The cedi's appreciation is attributed to improved foreign exchange inflows, reduced demand pressures, and enhanced investor confidence. GUTA believes that aligning prices with current exchange rates would promote fairness and trust in the marketplace.

The association has called on traders to act in good faith, recalibrate their pricing structures, and support national economic recovery efforts by passing on the benefits to consumers.

“The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) wishes to appeal to the trading community to adjust prices of goods and services to share the significant gains made by the appreciation of the cedi against the major trading currencies and bring some relief to the consuming public,” portions of the statement read.
