Government is Processing GH¢25 Million to WAEC to Clear Debts - Dr. Apaak
Ghana's government has taken a step towards settling its debt with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) by processing a payment of GH¢25 million according to the Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament's Education Committee, Dr. Clement Apaak.
This move comes after WAEC warned that the government's outstanding debt of GH¢118 million could lead to significant delays in releasing the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
In an interview on the 'Eyewitness News' on Citi Fm, Dr. Apaak, stated that the payment is a positive development, but it only scratches the surface of WAEC's financial challenges.
“The information we are receiving is that the government has issued a cheque for GH¢25 million to WAEC, but we are talking about an amount of GH¢118 million, and so when you give only GH¢25 million, clearly this is not even half of the debt. It is a drop in the ocean''.
