GJA sets up Accra Press Centre to host election press conferences
As Ghana gears up for its general elections on December 7, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has taken a significant step to promote transparency and accessibility.
In a press release issued by the General Secretary of the GJA, Mr Kofi Yeboah, the association announced the GJA has designated the Ghana International Press Centre (GIPC) as a hub for press conferences on election-related matters.
Located in the heart of Accra, the GIPC will provide a central and convenient location for political actors and the media to interact during the electoral period.
According to the GJA, the Gifty Afenyi Dadzie Conference Hall at the GIPC will be available for political parties, candidates, and other stakeholders to hold press conferences.
To ensure comprehensive coverage of these engagements, the GJA has encouraged media houses to station news teams at the Press Centre. Additionally, the GJA plans to establish a National Media Collation Centre (NMCC) at the GIPC, which will collect and collate election results, displaying projections on giant monitors.
The NMCC aims to serve as a reliable source of information for the media, political actors, and the general public. According to the GJA, this initiative underscores their commitment to facilitating credible elections and ensuring transparency and accessibility during this critical period.
“The GJA is committed to facilitating credible elections, and this initiative underscores our role in ensuring transparency and accessibility during this critical period,” the release stated.
