Ghana's Presidential Hopefuls to Ink Peace Pact today ahead of Election 2024
In a significant step towards ensuring a peaceful electoral process, Ghana's National Peace Council is hosting a landmark meeting today, Nov 28, bringing together all political parties and their presidential candidates contesting the December 7 elections. The objective is to sign a peace pact, committing candidates to maintain peace before, during, and after the polls.
According to Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, Chairman of the National Peace Council, all political parties have confirmed their attendance, signaling a commitment to peaceful elections.
Speaking on Citi, News, Rev. Adu-Gyamfi stated that the council has distributed the pact to all parties, allowing them to review and provide feedback.
“So far, we believe that all the parties will be there. We have commitments for all of them. We have sent them a copy of the pact for them to study if they have any comments to come back, and so far, we have not had any adverse reactions from any of the parties.
“And so right now what we are doing is putting down appropriations for the various logistics and the things that need to be done for the signing of the pact,'' he stated.
However, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has yet to confirm its participation, having outlined stringent conditions for its involvement. The party's demands include the signature of key government officials on the agreement.
