Ghana's Mpox Outbreak Worsens: 302 Cases, 20 New Infections
Accra, Ghana – 3 August, 2025 – Ghana's Mpox cases have surged to 302 after 20 new infections were reported, bringing concerns about the spread of the virus. According to the Ghana Health Service, the latest update as of July 30, 2025, indicates a significant increase in cases.
The recent surge in Mpox cases comes after the country's first recorded Mpox-related death was reported last week, marking a turning point in the outbreak. The Ghana Health Service has emphasized the importance of public awareness and cooperation in containing the spread of the virus.
Mpox, formerly known as Monkeypox, is a viral disease that spreads predominantly through close physical contact with infected individuals. This includes contact with skin lesions, body fluids, or contaminated objects such as clothing or bedding. Common symptoms include fever ,headache and muscle aches ,swollen Lymph nodes and rash.
meanwhile , the Ghana Health Service has indicated it is working closely with regional health directorates to trace contacts ,monitor suspected cases and
intensify public education.
The Service has urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with health directives to control the outbreak
