Ghanaian Pilgrims Who Died During Hajj Had Pre-Existing Health Conditions - Hajj Taskforce

Accra., Ghana - 18 June, 2025 - Six Ghanaian pilgrims who lost their lives during the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca had pre-existing health conditions, according to Alhaji Collins Dauda, Chairman of the National Hajj Task Force.

The elderly pilgrims, part of the official Ghanaian contingent, succumbed to their underlying medical issues, which were known before they embarked on the journey.

The Ghana Hajj Board had initially reported the deaths of seven Ghanaians in Saudi Arabia, but Alhaji Dauda clarified that one of the deceased had travelled on a tourist visa and was not part of the official group.

“We have received information about a seventh person who also passed away, but he did not travel with the official group. He went on a tourist visa. Nevertheless, he is Ghanaian,” he told journalists.

The families of the six pilgrims who died as part of the official contingent have been formally notified.

Alhaji Dauda attributed the deaths to the will of Allah, expressing the Hajj Board's condolences to the bereaved families. Special prayers were held in Mecca following the burial of the deceased.

“It was not our wish for this to happen, but it was the will of Allah.''

Upon the return of the main contingent of Ghanaian pilgrims later this month, the Hajj Board plans to discuss ways to honour the memory of the deceased and support their families.
