Ghana Will Become Africa's Hub for AI and Data Processing - Sam George
Accra, Ghana 31, Jan, 2025 - Minister-Designate for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced plans to position Ghana as the leading hub for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Africa by 2028.
Speaking before Parliament's Appointments Committee on Thursday, Mr. George emphasized the need for collaboration between government agencies, private sector players, and global technology giants to achieve this goal.
He highlighted the transformative nature of AI, comparing its current potential to the early days of cryptocurrency. Mr. George stressed that Ghana should not just participate in the AI revolution but lead it.
To achieve this vision, Mr. George plans to review and improve the existing AI strategy, execute innovation hubs, and introduce AI on top of big data. He aims to make Ghana the hub for AI, machine learning, cybersecurity, data analytics, and data processing on the African continent.
“AI in 2025 is like Bitcoin in 2013. President John Dramani Mahama has a clear vision on his AI policy and we are going to take the current AI strategy that was developed by the previous government, review it, make it fit for purpose by engaging industry to ensure that Ghana becomes the hub for artificial intelligence on the African continent,'' he stated.
“We are going to do this by making sure that our innovation hubs as promised in our manifesto are executed and then we will introduce AI on top of big data that we are taking and Ghana will become the hub for AI, machine learning, cyber security, data analytics and data processing on the African continent,'' he added.
