Ghana Commits to Sustainable Blue Economy Amid Growing Threats to Marine Resources
Accra, Ghana - Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to adopting a sustainable Blue Economy, as the country's marine resources face increasing threats from pollution, overfishing, and climate change.
The Blue Economy concept, which aims to promote economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability, is seen as crucial to Ghana's development. With a coastline of 550 kilometers, Ghana's marine resources provide livelihoods for millions of people and contribute significantly to the country's economy.
However, the country's marine resources are facing numerous challenges, including pollution, overfishing, and climate change. To address these challenges, Ghana is committed to implementing sustainable practices in its marine industries, including fisheries, tourism, and maritime transport.
The country has also pledged to protect its marine ecosystems, including coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrasses, which provide important benefits to people and communities, such as livelihoods, food, and recreation.
Ghana's commitment to a sustainable Blue Economy is in line with the United Nations' policy on the Blue Economy, which aims to promote sustainable use of marine resources and reduce poverty and inequality.
The country's efforts to adopt a sustainable Blue Economy are expected to have numerous benefits, including improved livelihoods for coastal communities, increased food security, and promotion of sustainable economic growth.
