Accra, Ghana - 31 March, 2025 - Ghana's government has scrapped plans to sell off diplomatic properties in Nigeria and Zambia, a move initiated by the previous administration.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the decision in Parliament, stating it had President John Mahama's full backing.

The canceled transactions aimed to sell Ghanaian diplomatic properties in Nigeria and Zambia, sparking concerns about national assets and state capture.

According to Ablakwa assured that efforts are underway to recover an illegal part payment made in one of the transactions. Those responsible, currently on the run, will face sanctions.

Ablakwa reaffirmed the government's pledge to protect the country's diplomatic assets, stressing that no diplomatic property will be sold during their tenure in a statement on facebook.

He vowed to recover a fraudulent payment made in one of the transactions and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The minister also underscored the government's commitment to upholding transparency, opposing state capture, and prioritizing national interest in their decision-making process.

'' Determined efforts are underway to retrieve an illegal part payment in one of the transactions. The masterminds, who are currently on the run will surely be found and sanctioned.
'' We mean it when we say no diplomatic property belonging to the people of Ghana would be sold under our watch,'' portions of the statement read.
