Four Dead, Including Police Officer, in New York City Office Building Shooting
A devastating shooting occurred on Monday evening at a skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, resulting in the deaths of four people, including a New York City police officer. The gunman, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura from Las Vegas, entered the office building on Park Avenue around 6:30 p.m. with an assault-style rifle and opened fire in the lobby before proceeding to the 33rd floor.
A 36-year-old Bangladeshi immigrant and father of two with a third child on the way. Didarul Islam, who had served in the NYPD for three and a half years, was working security at the building when he was shot.
Meanwhile ,the identities of other three victims have not been released yet.
The gunman entered the building and immediately opened fire in the lobby, shooting Officer Islam and several others. He then proceeded to the 33rd floor, where he killed one person before taking his own life. A fifth victim, who was shot, is in critical but stable condition.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that the suspect appeared to have acted alone and had a documented mental health history. Authorities are still searching for a motive behind the shooting. The gunman's vehicle, registered in Nevada, was found to contain multiple magazine rounds and a revolver.
The skyscraper is home to several major firms, including the National Football League (NFL), Blackstone, and KPMG. The building was evacuated, and pedestrians were advised to avoid the area due to the active shooter situation.
Commissioner Tisch praised Officer Islam, saying, "He was doing the job that we asked him to do. He made the ultimate sacrifice." Local officials and authorities celebrated Islam's heroism and sacrifice.
