Election 2024: EC cancels printing contract with Yasarko
Accra, Ghana - October 26, 2024 - The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has cancelled its contract with Yasarko Printing Press Limited to print presidential and parliamentary ballot papers for the Oti and Western North regions in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
The decision comes after opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC) raised concerns over Yasarko's capacity and impartiality. The NDC had requested assurances on measures to prevent ballot tampering.
Instead, Buck Press Limited and Acts Commercials Limited will handle printing for the Oti and Western North regions, respectively.
In a press release, signed by Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, the EC assured stakeholders of equal oversight across all contracted firms to safeguard the election's integrity.
This move aims to address transparency concerns amidst heightened scrutiny from political parties and civil society organizations. The EC began printing notices of poll and ballot papers on October 11, 2024.
