Defence Committee Had Nothing to Do with Adu-Boahene - Agalga Hits Back at Ex-NSB Boss Over GHC960K Bribery Allegations

Accra, Ghana - 11 May, 2025 - Member of Parliament for Builsa North and Chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee, James Agalga, has strongly denied allegations that lawmakers received GH₵960,000 in bribes to facilitate the passage of the National Signals Bureau Act in 2020.

The claims were made by Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former Director General of the National Signals Bureau, in a memo to the Auditor General.

Agalga described the allegations as "spurious" and "baseless," stating that Adu Boahene had no involvement with the Bureau at the time of the Act's passage.

In fact, Agalga noted that Adu Boahene only assumed his role in 2021, a year after the Act was passed. Agalga emphasized that the committee, which he served as Ranking Member at the time, worked closely with the then-Minister for National Security and the late National Security Coordinator, but had no interaction with Adu Boahene.

“At the time of the passage of Act 1040, Hon Seth Acheampong was the Committee Chairman and I served as the Ranking Member. The National Signals Bureau, which Mr. Boahene later headed, did not even exist when the bill was being considered.”

“The committee had nothing to do with Adu-Boahene during the passage of the Act and therefore could not have received any money from him,'' he added.
