Ghanaian music legend, Daddy Lumba

Accra, Ghana – 5 August, 2025 – The family of Ghanaian music legend, Daddy Lumba, has announced that his One Week observance will be held on Saturday, August 30, in Accra. However, the final funeral rites will take place in Kumasi, paying homage to the musician's roots in the Asante Kingdom.

According to Kofi Owusu, Lumba's head of family, the decision to hold the One Week in Accra and the final funeral in Kumasi was made after consulting with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Owusu explained that as a royal, the family couldn't proceed with funeral arrangements without informing the Asantehene and seeking his counsel.

The family is still deliberating on the venue for the One Week observance in Accra, considering the large crowd that attended the candlelight vigil at the Independence Square. A bigger venue is being sought to ensure a smooth and safe event.

A candlelight vigil was held at the Independence Square in Accra on August 2, and Kumasi will host its own vigil at the Heroes' Park on August 9. These tributes showcase the impact Daddy Lumba had on his fans and the music industry.
