Court Battle Erupts Over Daddy Lumba's Estate and Widowhood Rites
Late Ghanaian highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba

Kumasi ,Ashanti Region - Ghana – A legal battle has erupted over the estate and funeral rites of Ghanaian highlife legend Daddy Lumba, with his wife Akosua Serwaa dragging the musician's family head, Kofi Owusu Fosu, and Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as "Odo Broni", to court. The lawsuit, filed at the High Court in Kumasi on October 3, 2025, centers on the rights to perform widowhood rites and be recognized as the late musician's spouse.

According to court documents, Akosua Serwaa claims that she legally married Daddy Lumba under German law at the Civil Marriage Registry in Bornheim, Germany. She asserts that their marriage was still valid and legally binding at the time of Daddy Lumba's passing on July 26, 2025.

However, the family head, Kofi Owusu Fosu, has allegedly expressed intentions to permit Odo Broni to perform the widowhood rites, a move Akosua Serwaa contends is unlawful.

Akosua Serwaa is seeking several declarations, including a declaration that she is the only surviving spouse of the late Daddy Lumba, and that she alone has the legal right to perform his widowhood rites.

She is also seeking an order restraining Kofi Owusu Fosu from recognizing or dealing with Odo Broni as a spouse of the deceased, and another order restraining Odo Broni from publicly presenting herself as the surviving wife of the late musician.

The final funeral rites for Daddy Lumba are scheduled to take place in Kumasi on December 6, 2025, at the Baba Yara Stadium. Akosua Serwaa alleges that she has been excluded from all preparations for the musician's burial and final funeral rites, despite her claims of being the legally recognized spouse.

The case is expected to be heard in the coming weeks, with the court's decision likely to determine who has the rightful claim to perform the widowhood rites and be recognized as the late musician's spouse.
