Council of State Elections to be Re-Run in North East and Ashanti Regions
Accra, Ghana - 13 Feb, 2025 - A rerun of the Council of State elections will take place in Ghana's North East and Ashanti Regions on Monday, February 17, 2025, following an announcement by the Electoral Commission (EC).
The decision comes after a tie in the North East Region, where two candidates secured six votes each, and chaotic scenes disrupted the ballot count in the Ashanti Region.
To prevent any further disruptions, the EC has notified the Ghana Police Service and National Election Security Taskforce to strengthen security at polling stations.
The Council of State plays a crucial advisory role to Ghana's president, making these elections a significant aspect of the country's democratic process.
