Committee to Probe Chief Justice Torkornoo Begins Work

Accra, Ghana - 15 May, 2025 - A five-member committee established by President John Mahama to investigate allegations of misconduct against Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo has commenced its work today, May 15, 2025.
The committee, chaired by Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, was set up in accordance with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution after a prima facie case was determined against the Chief Justice.
The committee's primary objective is to conduct a thorough inquiry into the allegations of misconduct leveled against Chief Justice Torkornoo, who is facing five separate petitions. Following consultations with the Council of State, President Mahama suspended the Chief Justice and established the panel to investigate the claims.
During its tenure, the committee is expected to convene three times a week and present its findings and recommendations to President Mahama upon completion of its work.
