Break the NPP,NDC Duopoly - Alan Kyerematen calls for change in Ghana's 2024 Elections
Ghana's independent presidential candidate, Alan Kyerematen, has urged citizens to reject the country's traditional two-party system, which he believes has hindered progress.
Speaking during a recent interview and community engagements in the Central Region, Kyerematen outlined the shortcomings of the dominant New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Kyerematen, who leads the Movement for Change, argued that both parties have failed to deliver meaningful transformation during their 16-year tenures. He cited their inability to address youth unemployment, stabilize the economy, and provide reliable power as evidence of their incompetence.
In contrast, Kyerematen presented his Great Transformational Plan (GTP) as a comprehensive solution to Ghana's challenges. The plan focuses on revitalizing the economy, generating employment, and promoting industrial and agricultural growth.
“For 16 years each, the NDC and NPP have been in power, and they have both taken us to the IMF, failed to solve youth unemployment, and left us with intermittent power outages. Why should Ghanaians continue to trust a system that only recycles failure?” Alan asked.
“Both Mahama and Bawumia have been at the helm of our country’s leadership, yet they failed to deliver substantive transformation. They managed the economy into the hands of the IMF and gave us an unbearable dumsor. They have had their chance and failed to positively impact the lives of ordinary Ghanaians,” he asserted.
Key aspects of the GTP include:
-Economic Transformation: Expanding production in agriculture and industry to create jobs, increase exports, and stabilize the exchange rate
- Agricultural Development: Investing in the Central Region's cocoa farming potential and implementing a New Agriculture Revolution policy to make farming more attractive and profitable.
- Sustainable Mining: Transitioning youth into responsible mining practices and redistributing mining licenses from political appointees to young people.
- Constitutional Reforms: Decentralizing power, establishing a second chamber of Parliament, and giving traditional authorities a pivotal role in governance.
- Fishing Industry Revitalization: Empowering Ghanaians to own trawlers, investing in cold stores and fish processing plants, and promoting locally produced fishing gear.
“We will expand production in the agricultural and industrial sectors to create employment, increase exports, and reduce imports to stabilise our exchange rate. This is the only way to secure sustainable development for Ghana,” he explained.
On agriculture, Alan pointed to the untapped potential of the Central Region, particularly in cocoa farming.
“This great region is not only rich in minerals but equally rich in agro-resources. Through my New Agriculture Revolution policy, we will invest heavily to make farming more attractive and profitable,” he said.
“I will take the mining licenses from political appointees and give them to the youth to engage in proper mining. We cannot allow a few greedy individuals to destroy our land and water resources,” he said firmly.
“Our chiefs must be co-trustees of our lands and resources. My government will ensure they play a central role in our development agenda,” Alan added.
“This election is not just about changing governments; it’s about rejecting the destructive duopoly that has held us back for decades. With the GTP, we can build a prosperous, united, and self-reliant Ghana. Together, we can take control of our destiny and create a better future for all,” he added.
