Accra, Ghana – 9 August, 2025 - In a show of solidarity and statesmanship, Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia paid a condolence visit to President John Dramani Mahama at his residence on Saturday, August 9, 2025. The visit was to express his deepest sympathies to the President and the nation following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians.

The helicopter crash, which occurred on August 6, 2025, at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region, has sent shockwaves across the country, with many Ghanaians mourning the loss of the victims.

During the visit, Dr. Bawumia, accompanied by officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and members of the previous government, expressed his heartfelt condolences to President Mahama, the bereaved families, and the nation. He described the incident as a "national tragedy" and prayed for strength and healing for the bereaved families, the government, and all Ghanaians.

Dr. Bawumia also visited the family of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, to convey his sympathies over their loss. He emphasized that the loss of the officials was a national tragedy and not a partisan issue.

The nation has declared a three-day mourning period, with a state funeral scheduled for August 15, 2025, at Black Star Square. Books of condolence will be available from August 10 to 14, 2025, at designated locations.
