Bawku's Tragic State: President Mahama Seeks Urgent Solution
Accra, Ghana – 18 July, 2025 – President Mahama has emphasized the need for a collective effort to resolve the protracted conflict in Bawku, a town that was once a thriving commercial hub.
During a meeting with a delegation of Mamprugu Chiefs, Mahama expressed his concern over the devastating impact of the conflict on the local community and the nation at large.
The conflict has taken a heavy toll on Bawku, with armed youth patrolling the streets and professionals fleeing the area. Mahama described the situation as "tragic" and urged all stakeholders to work towards a lasting peace.
The President commended the mediation efforts led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, noting that productive discussions have been held and concessions are being made by both sides. He praised Naa-Yiri Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga for his vital cooperation in the peace process.
Mahama assured that the government remains committed to ensuring safety and fostering dialogue in Bawku. He urged all stakeholders to expedite the mediation process, emphasizing that peace in Bawku is not just a local issue but a matter of national importance.
