Bank of Ghana Reportedly Sacks Over 100 Hired Staff in Mass Termination
Dr. Johnson Asiama is the Governor of the Bank of Ghana

Accra, Ghana - 21 June, 2025 - In a shocking move, the Bank of Ghana has reportedly terminated the appointments of over 100 staff members who were employed in 2024, citing unsatisfactory completion of their six-month probationary period.

The affected employees received formal notices of dismissal, signed by Mrs. Lucy Sasu, Head of the Human Resource and Capacity Development Department, stating that their contracts would officially end on June 23, 2025.

The decision comes amid a broader wave of dismissals within state institutions since the change in government in January 2025. The move has sparked uncertainty among the affected employees, many of whom were brought on board last year, amidst a challenging economic climate.

“In accordance with the terms of your contract of employment, a satisfactory six (6) month probationary period was to be completed. Management regrets to inform you that your appointment cannot be confirmed,” the termination notice stated.

The terminations appear to be linked to a directive issued by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, on February 11, 2025. The directive annulled all public sector appointments and recruitment made after December 7, 2024, citing non-compliance with good governance practices and principles.

The Bank of Ghana has not issued an official statement beyond the individual dismissal letters, leaving unclear whether additional rounds of terminations are planned. The affected employees are set to receive one month's salary in lieu of notice and have been instructed to return all bank property to the Human Resource Department by June 23, 2025.
