Ato Forson Charges New GoldBoD Board to Drive Economic Transformation Amid Cedi's 16.7% Surge Against Dollar

Accra, Ghana - 19 May, 2025 - Ghana's Finance Minister, Dr. Cassie Ato Forson, has expressed optimism about the country's economic prospects, citing the Ghana cedi's impressive performance against the US dollar.

According to him, the cedi has appreciated by 16.7% as of May 2025, making it the world's best-performing currency so far this year.

Dr. Ato Forson attributed this success to strong coordination between monetary and fiscal policy, improved inflows from gold, cocoa, and remittances, and prudent management of the public purse.

He made these remarks while inaugurating the newly constituted 13-member Board of Directors of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBoD).

The Minister charged the new board to deliver on its critical mandate, focusing on strengthening Ghana's gold trade, improving transparency, and supporting broader economic recovery efforts.

In a statement on his X account (formerly Twitter), Dr. Forson expressed confidence in the board's ability to discharge its duties with integrity, professionalism, and a deep sense of national responsibility, under the leadership of Mr. Kojo Fynn.

''I just had the honour of inaugurating the newly constituted 13-member Board of Directors of the Ghana GoldBoD. On behalf of H.E. the President, I congratulated the members and charged them to deliver on their critical mandate to help strengthen Ghana’s gold trade, improve transparency, and support our broader economic recovery efforts. Our strategic focus on gold is already yielding positive results.

''As of May 13, 2025, the Ghana cedi has appreciated by 16.7% against the US dollar, making it the world’s best performing currency so far this year. This turnaround is no accident. It reflects strong coordination between monetary and fiscal policy, improved inflows from gold, cocoa and remittances, and firm discipline in managing the public purse.

''The Ghana GoldBoD will be key to sustaining this progress and ensuring the sector contributes even more meaningfully to our economic transformation. I am confident the new board, under the able leadership of Mr. Kojo Fynn, will discharge its duties with integrity, professionalism and a deep sense of national responsibility. Let’s continue building a stronger, more resilient economy together,'' he wrote on his X account (formerly Twitter).
