Asantehene Returns to the Negotiation Table for Bawku Peace Talks

Bawku, Upper East Region, Ghana - Ghana's revered King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, is set to resume mediation efforts to resolve the longstanding Bawku conflict, following assurances from President John Mahama that the peace process will continue.

The mediation sessions, scheduled to take place from April 28 to May 1 at the Asantehene's palace in Kumasi, aim to bring together two warring factions and find a lasting solution to the disturbances.

Security expert Colonel Festus Aboagye, retired, has thrown his weight behind the Asantehene's efforts, calling for enhanced support through multi-track diplomacy. He suggests involving a broader range of stakeholders, including diaspora leaders, youth influencers, and women's peacebuilding networks, to ensure a more inclusive and sustainable peace.

Colonel Aboagye believes that incorporating various societal actors will foster a deeper understanding of the conflict's complexities and help build trust among the parties involved. The Asantehene's mediation efforts have been recognized as a crucial part of the national efforts to restore calm in the troubled region.
