A/R: BECE Candidate Gives Birth During ICT Paper
Asenua, Ashanti Region - 12 June, 2025 - A distressing incident occurred at the Asenua Presbyterian Junior High School examination center in the Ashanti Region when an expectant mother sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and unexpectedly went into labor during the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) paper.
According to eyewitnesses, a policewoman escorting the candidate to the washroom noticed her distress and alerted the authorities. The student was quickly taken to an office at the examination center, where some elderly women in the community intervened to aid her in a safe delivery.
After giving birth, the candidate and her baby were rushed to a private health facility for medical attention. Investigations reveal that the student's headteacher had convinced her to sit for the examination despite her condition.
The incident has raised concerns about the student's well-being and the circumstances that led her to take the examination in her condition. The student's bravery and determination to sit for the examination despite her pregnancy have also been noted.
