Accra, Ghana - 10 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's newly appointed Health Minister, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has officially taken office, marking the beginning of a new era in the country's healthcare sector.

Akandoh's appointment comes at a critical time, as Ghana's healthcare system faces numerous challenges, including uneven distribution of healthcare professionals, inadequate infrastructure, and a rising burden of infectious and non-communicable diseases.

The Ministry of Health organized a staff durbar to officially introduce the new minister and provide an opportunity for him to engage with management and staff members.

Alhaji Hafiz Adam, the Chief Director of the Ministry, highlighted the importance of neutrality in the scheme of service and urged staff to collaborate with the new minister.

During his inaugural address, Akandoh emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration with healthcare professionals and stakeholders to develop innovative solutions and improve the healthcare system.

He also highlighted the government's commitment to providing incentives for health workers to accept postings to rural areas, a move aimed at addressing the shortage of healthcare professionals in these areas.

“With your support, I  am confident that we will overcome challenges in the health sector, and we will be victorious in achieving one health in the country,” he stated.

The new minister's priorities are expected to include addressing the uneven distribution of healthcare professionals, improving healthcare infrastructure, and tackling the rising burden of infectious and non-communicable diseases.

Akandoh's leadership will be crucial in addressing these challenges and ensuring that Ghanaians have access to quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare.
