African Legislators Must Unite to Address Continent's Challenges - Speaker Bagbin

Côte d'Ivoire - 21 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has made a passionate call for African nations to unite under the banner of Pan-Africanism.

Addressing the National Assembly of Côte d'Ivoire, Speaker Bagbin emphasized the importance of African unity in tackling the continent's challenges on terrorism, resolve conflicts, and address climate change.

The Speaker's remarks were made during the National Assembly's First Ordinary Session for the year, where he was joined by fellow Speakers of National Parliaments from Senegal, Benin, Togo, Nigeria, and the ECOWAS Parliament. This show of solidarity aims to reinforce a shared commitment to strengthening African Unity through parliamentary diplomacy and dialogue.

Speaker Bagbin's call for unity is rooted in the principles of Pan-Africanism, which has historically evolved from a liberation movement to an ideology promoting continental unity, interdependence, and economic transformation. By working together, African nations can leverage their collective strength to address pressing challenges and drive development.

The Speaker's delegation included his wife, Madam Linda Ofosuah Oboh, and Members of Parliament, demonstrating Ghana's commitment to fostering cooperation and collaboration with fellow African nations.
