Africa Must Break Free from Traditional Trading and Seize Emerging Opportunities - Mahama

Kwahu, Eastern Region, Ghana - 20 April, 2025 - In a call to action for African nations, former President John Dramani Mahama urged the continent to harness the potential of shifting global economic trends.
Addressing the Kwahu Business Forum on Saturday April 20, Mahama stressed that Africa must break free from its traditional trading mold and instead focus on building a robust manufacturing, industrialization, and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The ongoing trade tensions between major economic powers, Mahama noted, have created a unique opportunity for Africa to redefine its economic trajectory. Despite often being left behind in past global transitions, Mahama expressed confidence in Africa's ability to capitalize on current geopolitical shifts.
“The world is changing, and new opportunities are being thrown up. We, as a country, must take advantage of those opportunities,” President Mahama stated.
To achieve this, Mahama advocated for a paradigm shift in Africa's economic approach, encouraging bold forays into sectors like agribusiness, digital innovation, and large-scale farming. His mantra, "We can be anything that we want," underscored the importance of visionary leadership and strategic planning in propelling Africa's economic growth.
By embracing this new economic mindset, Mahama believes African nations can effectively navigate the complexities of the global landscape and seize emerging opportunities.
The Kwahu Business Forum serves as a crucial hub for policymakers, entrepreneurs, and investors to forge economic development strategies and boost private sector growth in Ghana and beyond.
