Afreximbank Names Dr. George Elombi as New President
Abuja, Nigeria - 29 June, 2025 -The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has appointed Dr. George Elombi, a veteran Cameroonian banker, as its new President and Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Dr. Elombi, who has spent almost 30 years at the institution, is set to take the reins in September 2025, succeeding Professor Benedict Oramah.
His appointment was announced at the bank's 32nd annual general meeting in Abuja, Nigeria.
Dr. Elombi's impressive career at Afreximbank has seen him rise through the ranks, holding key positions such as Executive Vice President, Governance, Legal and Corporate Services.
He played a pivotal role in shaping the bank's structure and response to crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, where he mobilized over $2 billion for vaccine acquisition and deployment.
With a deep commitment to the bank's mission, Dr. Elombi expressed his vision for Afreximbank as a force for industrializing Africa and regaining the dignity of Africans worldwide, in his acceprtance speech.
“I have worked alongside remarkable colleagues and extraordinary leaders to help shape this institution’s vision, its mandate, as well as its growth,'' he stated.
"As we look to the future, I see Afreximbank as a force for industrialising Africa and for regaining the dignity of Africans wherever they are. I will work to preserve this important asset,'' he added.
