The whole world knows who the Osagyefo is,he founded this country and named it Ghana - CPP to Akufo-Addo
The Convention People's Party (CPP) is dissatisfied with President Akufo-Addo's recent remarks during his address to the country on Founders' Day.
On August 3, President Akufo-Addo stated that he opposed the premise that the country was formed by a single man.
According to him, the fight for Ghana's independence was a collaborative effort that should not be attributed to a single person.
The CPP, Dr Kwame Nkrumah's own political party has not taken these views of the president lightly. They called the comment a "unfortunate gaffe" and stated that since the day is set aside to honor the nation's founder, the president should have been more careful with his words.
On August 4, the party's Independent Committee chairperson, Patrick Nelson Sogbodjor, signed a press statement addressing the issue.
The CPP also stated that, given that the party is nearing the end of its present term, it should strive to leave a legacy that will be remembered, rather than constantly attempting to trash the legacy of a leader who Ghana and Africa hold dear.
"To reject The Osagyefo as the Founder of Ghana on the weak basis that “the struggle for our nation’s freedom was a collective effort spanning several generations” is indeed an unfortunate gaffe, and it would have been thought His Excellency would have been more selective with his words, in these last days of the NPP administration, especially after mistakenly referring to His Excellency the former President John Dramani Mahama as his vice only a couple of days ago. The NPP is indeed a party of inaccuracies and massaging of facts on all fronts,”' the statement read.
