The equipment doesn’t belong to the party- Mahama slams Bawumia over DRIP equipment
Yeji, Ghana - Opposition leader John Dramani Mahama has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of misusing public property for political advertising, calling on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to order the removal of NPP posters from District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment.
Addressing a rally in Yeji, Mahama emphasized that the DRIP project, funded by taxpayers, is a national initiative aimed at improving road conditions across all 275 constituencies, and its equipment belongs to all Ghanaians, not just the NPP.
Mahama demanded that President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia recognize their duty to serve the entire nation, rather than just their party, and warned that the NDC would take further action if the posters are not removed immediately.
The NDC flagbearer stressed that the misuse of public property for political gain is unacceptable and urged the NPP to respect the rights of all Ghanaians.
“It’s the government’s money, funded by the taxes we all pay—whether you’re NPP, CPP, Christian, or Muslim—everyone contributes. They’ve used those taxes to import earth-moving equipment for road construction, and each district has been allocated some. But now, we’re seeing posters of NPP parliamentary candidates on the DRIP equipment.
“I want to remind Akufo-Addo and Bawumia that they serve the entire country, not just the NPP. The equipment doesn’t belong to the party; it belongs to all Ghanaians.
“No one has the right to place their posters on the DRIP equipment. They must order the immediate removal of these posters, or we’ll be forced to take action ourselves,” he stated.
