The Elections will not be postponed - Omane Boamah tells EC

The Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Omane Boamah has sharply criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for delaying in furnishing political parties with copies of the provisional voter register before to the voter exhibition exercise.

His comments come after the EC failed to send the register to political parties after directing them to collect it on Wednesday, August 14.

Earlier in July, the EC requested external drives from political parties to ease the register's transfer, however, NDC officials were turned away when they visited the EC's office on the scheduled date and again on Friday, August 16.

In a Facebook post, Dr. Omane Boamah cautioned that the EC would not be permitted to speed up the impending 2024 elections, announcing the party's determination to protest and organize public forums against the commission.

“The EC will not be allowed to stampede us into the elections. Every lost moment will be reclaimed at their expense, as the elections will not be postponed! EC, Release the Provisional Voter Register Now!.”

“In four [three] days, the EC will begin the exhibition of the voter register, everybody who registered please take a few minutes to go and and check and make sure your name is in the register. Because on December 7, we don’t want you to go to the polling station and they will say your name is not in the register. So, please take a few minutes and go and check your name.

“I want to draw the attention of the EC, in July, they asked all political parties to bring their hard drives so that they could give us a copy of the provisional voter register. The exhibition starts in four [three] days, we should have received the provisional voter register by now. So that we can help our members to check if their names are there."

“They have asked us to come for the hard drives for the provisional register. I’m calling on the EC to make sure that we get the hard drives of the provisional voter register so that we can send them to the constituencies. And let our executives start helping our people to check their names, and make sure their names are there.”
