State of Baba Yara pitch is concerning - Otto Addo
Kumasi, Ghana - Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed concerns over the state of the pitch at the Baba Yara Stadium, just days before Ghana's opening 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola.
The match, scheduled for Thursday, September 5, is expected to draw a large crowd, but the condition of the pitch has raised worries about player safety and the overall quality of the game.
This is not the first time concerns have been raised about the pitch, as CAF officials had previously requested improvements in the lead-up to the qualifiers.
Despite these concerns, the game is still set to go ahead at the Baba Yara Stadium, with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) working to address the issues.
"It's concerning because the way we want to play we need a good pitch," said Addo during the presser to announce his squad for the game," he said.
"At the moment, there are a lot of discussions about how we can do better so there will be no discussions about the pitch."
"We want our players to be happy to do anything possible to give their best on the pitch. Therefore, we have to do a little bit better to make the pitch as best as possible."
Coach Addo's concerns highlight the need for adequate facilities to host international matches, and the GFA will be under pressure to ensure the pitch meets the required standards.
