South Africa advanced to the T20 World Cup semi-finals with a tense three-wicket win over co-hosts West Indies in a winner-takes-all Super 8s match in Antigua.
The game was essentially a quarter-final to decide the other side to progress from Group 2. South Africa wobbled at times but ultimately withstood the pressure and Marco Jans Having restricted West Indies to 135-8, the Proteas appeared in control but Andre Russell struck twice in the second over of the chase to leave them 15-2.
The Windies' progress was abruptly halted by an unexpected downpour, which forced the players to leave the field for 75 minutes. South Africa resumed with a fresh goal of 17 overs, and a flurry of boundaries swiftly put them back in control.
However, with a rowdy crowd at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium cheering them on, the West Indies fought back, led by Roston Chase, who scored 52 and took three wickets. As the game approached a tense climax, with South Africa requiring nine from seven balls, Kagiso Rabada hit a magnificent cover drive for four, and Jansen completed the job at the start of the next over. Previously, South Africa's spinners inflicted the most damage with the ball with Tabraiz Shamsi taking 3-38.
The Proteas lead the group, with England in second, and will meet the Group 1 runners-up.
