Rob Page sacked as Wales manager.
Wales Football Association has taken the decision to end Rob Page’s contract as Men’s National Team Head Coach.
Page 49, was appointed as Cymru Manager on an interim basis in November 2020 and was given the role on a permanent basis in September 2022.
During his time in charge, he led his country to a first World Cup in 64 years when Cymru qualified for the 2022 World cup in Qatar. He also guided them to the second round of Euro 2020 finals and secured promotion to League A in the UEFA Nations League.
Unfortunately, Wales failed to qualify for Euro 2024 and were also abysmal in their friendly displays against Slovakia and Gibraltar this month. Following an underwhelming performance at the 2022 World Cup, Page faced heavy criticism after an embarrassing home defeat by Armenia during Euro 2024 qualifying.
Rob Page managed 45 games for the Welsh National team. He won 15 matches, lost 14 and drew 16 games with 33.3% win rate.
Meanwhile, Welsh captain, Aaron Ramsey has taken to social media to express his gratitude to Rob Page for his guidance during his time as manager of the Welsh national team. He posted his message on the x app.
Page's Successor
The Welsh media has been speculating the appointment of Osian Roberts as Page's successor. Osian Roberts guided Italian club Como to a return to Serie A after 21 years and the former assistant manager of Wales under Chris Coleman The former Football Association of Wales technical director, Crystal Palace assistant manager and Morocco national team technical director, was on a shortlist of three when Ryan Giggs was appointed Wales boss in 2018.
Also on the shortlist is former Wales striker Craig Bellamy. it’s believed Bellamy came within a whisker of being appointed boss of his country in 2018, but lost out to Giggs by one vote.
