President Akufo-Addo axes NSA boss amid CAF stadium Ban
Accra, Ghana - President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sacked the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Dodzie Numekevor, effective immediately.
The move follows the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) decision to revoke the Baba Yara Sports Stadium's license to host international matches.
The controversy began when the stadium was rented out for a church program just six days before Ghana's AFCON 2025 qualifier against Angola.
President Akufo-Addo ordered the dismissal of those responsible and warned Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif that he would be held accountable if Ghana is forced to play home matches abroad.
Numekevor was initially queried by the Sports Minister and given until September 18 to respond.
However, President Akufo-Addo intervened, dissatisfied with the NSA's handling of sports infrastructure.
Before his dismissal, Numekevor had closed three major stadiums - Baba Yara, Accra, and Cape Coast - for maintenance due to their poor condition.
CAF had criticized the stadiums' state in a letter to the Ghana Football Association, prompting the directive to find an alternative venue for Ghana's match against Sudan.
