PSWU calls off strike after NLC intervention
Accra, Ghana - October 25, 2024 - The Public Services Workers' Union (PSWU) has suspended its strike following a National Labour Commission (NLC) directive. The strike's suspension comes after a meeting between the PSWU, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), and NLC to resolve the labour dispute.
In a statement released on October 25, 2024, the PSWU confirmed its Single Spine Salary Structure members will resume work on October 28, 2024. The union seeks a mutually beneficial resolution to outstanding government issues.
The PSWU hopes parties will continue negotiating to address concerns leading to the industrial action. The NLC stipulated a negotiation timeframe, and the PSWU warned of appropriate action if talks fail.
The National Identification Authority (NIA) endorsed the NLC's directive, urging the PSWU to halt the strike. This development marks a significant step towards resolving the labour dispute and restoring public services.
With the strike suspension, public services are expected to return to normal, providing relief to citizens impacted by the industrial action.
