NDC stages nationwide demo against EC today

Accra, Ghana - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is leading a nationwide demonstration today, Tuesday, September 17, to express discontent with the Electoral Commission's (EC) management of the voter registration process.

At the forefront of the protest is the NDC's demand for a comprehensive forensic audit of the voter register, citing irregularities and anomalies. The party alleges widespread vote transfers and discrepancies in the registration process.

The Electoral Commission maintains it has addressed all necessary corrections following the exhibition of the provisional voter register, as mandated by law.

NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah announced the protest, voicing concerns over the EC's transparency and handling of election-related issues, including unresolved investigations into stolen biometric verification devices.

To ensure public safety, the Ghana Police Service has outlined guidelines for the demonstrations, emphasizing peaceful protest, designated routes, and timelines. Security personnel will be deployed along protest routes.

The NDC's protest reflects growing tensions ahead of Ghana's December elections. The party seeks greater transparency and accountability from the Electoral Commission.

Key Protest Demands:

- Independent forensic audit of EC's IT systems and voter register
- Transparency in voter registration process
- Resolution of outstanding election-related issues

Today's demonstrations will take place in all 16 regional capitals, with protesters marching through designated routes.
