Mahama sees divine sign in Parliament's vacant seat declaration
Ningo-Prampram, Ghana - October 17, 2024 - National Democratic Congress's (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has hailed Speaker Alban Bagbin's declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant as a divine indication of the party's impending electoral success in December 2024.
This development follows Bagbin's approval of a motion by former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, which argued that the four MPs in question - Cynthia Morrison (Agona West), Kojo Asante (Suhum), Andrew Asiamah (Fomena), and Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central) - had forfeited their seats by declaring their intent to contest the upcoming elections as independent candidates, violating constitutional provisions on parliamentary membership.
Addressing supporters at a rally in Ningo-Prampram on Thursday, October 17, Mahama urged NDC supporters to remain steadfast and committed in the final months leading up to the elections to ensure the party's triumph.
He emphasized that although the situation was encouraging, the party must continue its efforts to secure victory at the polls.
“If the report I am hearing from parliament is true, then something historic has just happened. The report I am hearing is that the speaker has declared 4 seats vacant. Of the 4 seats, 3 are from the NPP and one is from the NDC.
“So if those seats have been declared vacant, then it means in the life of one parliament, the minority has turned to the majority and the majority has turned to the minority. So for me, God is even showing a sign of what is going to happen, but we have to make it a reality on 7th December 2024,'' he added.
