Late goal denies Ghana win again, held by Niger in AFCON Qualifier
Berkane, Morocco - September 9, 2024 - Ghana's hopes of securing a win in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers were dashed once again, as they conceded a late goal to draw 1-1 with Niger. This follows a similar pattern to their previous game, where they lost 1-0 to Angola after conceding a late goal.
The match, played at a neutral venue in Berkane, Morocco, saw Ghana take the lead through Alidu Seidu's brilliant strike just before halftime. However, Niger impressed in the second half and equalized in the 81st minute through Oumar Sako's goal.
Ghana had opportunities to double their lead, with Inaki Williams, Mohammed Kudus, and Majeed Ashimeru going close, but Niger's goalkeeper Younoussa Hainikoye made crucial saves to keep his team in the game.
The equalizer came when Sako reacted quickly to a loose ball in the penalty box off a corner kick, securing a draw for Niger.
This result leaves Ghana's chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON uncertain.
