Lands Ministry reaffirms commitment to Sustainable Mining

Accra, Ghana - The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has intensified efforts to combat illegal mining, deploying task forces, increasing monitoring, and enforcing regulations to protect the environment and communities.

In a statement, the ministry reiterated its commitment to sustainable mining practices, emphasizing collaboration with traditional leaders, local communities, and civil society to educate the public and hold illegal miners accountable.

Stricter guidelines have been issued to Regional Ministers and security councils to strengthen the fight against illegal mining. The government is also working on land reclamation projects and ensuring mining companies adhere to environmental and social standards.

This crackdown comes as the government seeks to balance mining's economic benefits with environmental protection and community well-being.

"Government remains steadfast and committed to continue to restore order and ensure that mining activities are conducted sustainably and legally in the national interest. We entreat all and sundry, to support these efforts to enable us to protect our environment, preserve our water bodies, and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come."

"While Government warmly welcomes the heightened interest in this all-important national issue, we urge the discourse to be devoid of partisanship so as to enable us to galvanise the needed national and collective support to root out this canker," the statement said.
