Gov't to roll out relief package for 800k farmers hit by dry spell starting October 10 - Bryan Acheampong
Accra, Ghana - In a move to alleviate the impact of the recent dry spell, the government will begin distributing food grants to over 800,000 affected farmers starting October 10, 2024.
The relief package, announced by Minister of Food and Agriculture Bryan Acheampong, includes a 25kg bag of rice and 100kg of maize for each farmer.
The dry spell has severely affected farmers in the northern and middle belt of the country, with many facing significant losses.
The government's intervention aims to provide urgent support to these farmers and help them recover from the devastating effects of the dry spell.

According to Acheampong, this distribution forms part of the government's existing interventions to mitigate the impact of the dry spell on affected farmers.
“From the 10th of October, we will commence the distribution of food grants to over 800,000 farmers in the 8 affected regions. Each farmer will receive 25kg of rice and 100kg of maize.”
“To bring relief to the general population, we are setting up an online grains market starting on the 10th of October to enable the public to conveniently access grains (maize and rice) at affordable prices,” he stated.
