Ghana's digitalization plan is revolutionary -Former Canadian Minister

Tony Peter Clement, the former President of the Treasury Board of Canada and Canadian Minister of Industry, with responsibility for digitization, science, and technology, has urged developing nations to embrace Ghana's comprehensive digitalization plan.

He claims that the Ghanaian government has effectively harnessed the digital revolution to provide accountability and openness across the board in the local economy.

He cited the biometric national identity systems and mobile money interoperability as two wise initiatives that have bolstered Ghana's economic expansion.

He emphasized how developing countries must go above and beyond to close the digital divide between rural and urban areas and to strengthen cyber security.

To further accelerate Ghana's digital revolution, Mr. Clement advocated for successful public-private partnerships.

He made these prouncements while addressing the the Democrat Union of Africa (DUA Forum 2024) held in Accra, on the theme “Leveraging AI as a tool to build stronger campaign coalitions.”

Mobile Money Interoperability

The Mobile Money Interoperability system was formally introduced by Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in May 2018 via Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GhlPSS).

The system facilitates cashless transactions and increases financial inclusion in Ghana. It also acts as a viable means of financial intermediation, allowing people and companies to easily receive mobile money from other network members.

The process of transferring money between the several mobile money networks that are available in the nation is becoming simpler and less complicated thanks to the system.

Customers no longer require the assistance of a third-party payment provider, which lowers the cost of starting transactions across networks.

Consumers benefit from more security and convenience as they may send and receive money straight from one another regardless of the network they are on.
