Ghana card issuance hits snag : 110,000 cards witheld
Accra, Ghana - The National Identification Authority (NIA) has disclosed that more than 110,000 Ghana Cards are being withheld due to double registration anomalies. Despite successfully issuing over 18 million cards to Ghanaians, approximately 150,000 cards remain pending printing.
Prof. Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah, Executive Secretary of the NIA, revealed this information while appearing before the Assurance Committee of Parliament. He announced that investigations into the multiple registration cases have begun, aiming to resolve the issues and ensure the integrity of the national identification process.
The NIA's efforts to address the double registration issues underscore the authority's commitment to maintaining the accuracy and reliability of the Ghana Card database. As the investigation continues, affected individuals await resolution to receive their rightful cards.
"The total number of cards not issued to Ghanaians as of the date of compilation of this report which was August 20, 2024, is 559, 457 and cards cleared and ready to be printed stands at 150,896.
"We have a total of 110,936, as the number of Ghanaians who have attempted multiple registrations whose cards have gone into delinquency and is being investigated,” he revealed.
