Galamsey: Judicial Service staff call off strike, resumes work on Thursday

Accra, Ghana - October 9, 2024 - The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has called off its indefinite strike, directing members to resume work on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

This decision follows the suspension of Organised Labour's nationwide strike, which was called off after the government pledged to address the illegal mining issue, also known as galamsey.

According to JUSAG, the National Executive Council (NEC) suspended the indefinite strike following Organised Labour's emergency meeting on October 9, 2024. The meeting resulted in enhanced measures to tackle galamsey, prompting Organised Labour to suspend the strike.

However, the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) at the University of Ghana has opted to continue its strike, despite other unions calling off their industrial action.

UTAG has been vocal about its dissatisfaction with the government's response to their demands.
