GHS Confirms COVID-19 Outbreak at University of Ghana
Accra, Ghana - 26 June, 2025 - A localized outbreak of COVID-19 has been reported within the University of Ghana community, prompting the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to urge the public to remain vigilant and adhere to preventive protocols.
According to the GHS, the outbreak is currently confined to the university campus, with all reported cases being mild and not requiring hospitalization.
The GHS in a press release noted that they are working closely with university authorities to contain the outbreak and evaluate the effectiveness of its response measures.
Despite the World Health Organisation's decision to no longer classify COVID-19 as a global health emergency, the GHS emphasizes that the pandemic is ongoing, with sporadic outbreaks expected worldwide.
The general public have been advised to observe the following preventive measures;
- Wearing face masks in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas
- Washing hands regularly with soap and water or using hand sanitizer
- Staying home and self-isolating if unwell
- Avoiding large gatherings
- Seeking medical attention if experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, or loss of taste or smell
