Free SHS Policy at risk under Mahama, he cannot be trusted - Akufo-Addo
North-East Region, Ghana - October 16, 2024 - President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has cast doubt on John Dramani Mahama's ability to lead Ghana, citing concerns that his return to power would put key policies, such as the Free Senior High School (SHS) program, at risk
Speaking to the chiefs and people of the North-East Region, Akufo-Addo warned that voting for Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 7 general elections could lead to the cancellation of major initiatives.
Akufo-Addo pointed to Mahama's recent remarks as evidence that the NDC leader might scrap the Free SHS program if elected. He urged Mahama to clarify his stance on the policy, emphasizing that Ghanaians deserve to know his true position.
"Mahama's inconsistent statements on the Free SHS policy have raised concerns," Akufo-Addo said “Let’s ask him [Mahama], which is which? What should the Ghanaian people take as your real position? Because this chopping and changing, chopping and changing, is a very difficult thing for some of us to understand.
“What should we believe? Are you going to change it? Are you going to cancel it? Are you going to improve it? Because every time you open your mouth, you say a different thing.
“I don’t think a man who talks like that, who wants the supreme office of our country, is somebody who can be trusted.”
Akufo-Addo's comments come as the December 7 elections draw near, with the Free SHS policy being a contentious issue.
